| The Cooperative
Research Centre (CRC) for Welded Structures has been formed from
an Australian Government initiative aimed at bringing industry and research
providers together so that Research and Development in welding and related
technologies can produce useable outcomes to benefit industry and the
national economy.
It started operation in 1992 as the CRC for Welding and Joining, with six Core Partners. In April 1999 it was announced that the CRC for Welded Structures application for funding in the CRC Program 1998 Selection Round was successful. The CRC for Welded Structures, one of 26 CRCs to be successful, was granted $11.5m for its operations over the next seven years (1999 - 2006). The
new CRC expanded and built upon the success of the participants in
